About us

The Ireland Cricket Academy (formerly known as Dublin Cricket Academy) was founded in 2009 by former and current Irish International players, Reinhardt Strydom and Albert van der Merwe.  The aim of the Academy is to provide a platform for beginner, intermediate and elite youth (Boys & Girls) cricketers, to learn and improve their cricket skills through a series of programmes tailored for their needs. Through our carefully selected programmes the Ireland Cricket Academy promotes cricket in Leinster and Ireland by introducing and promoting cricket at grassroots level, providing specialised coaching all year round, allocating new cricketers to various clubs in and around their local areas and acting as a link between talented players and the provincial union set up.

Reinhardt is a former Irish International player and currently the Fingal County Council’s Cricket Development Officer. As a Level two coach Reinhardt has worked with Leinster and Irish Cricketers since 2001 at Malahide Cricket Club, Old Belvedere Cricket Club, North County Cricket Club and YMCA Cricket Club and with the Leinster Youth Branch. Reinhardt was also involved in a coaching capacity at Boland Provincial Cricket in South Africa. Albert is a current Irish International player and has worked as a Cricket Development Officer since 2004 at Derriaghy Cricket Club (Northern Ireland), The Hills Cricket Club and YMCA Cricket Club. Albert acts as a coach with the Leinster Youth Branch and The Fingal County Schools Cricket Development Programme. Albert was also involved with the Irish National Women’s team and at the North West University in South Africa as a player and captain.

Rob O’Connor joined Ireland Cricket Academy as a coach on a part time basis in 2011. Rob has extensive experience as a juvenile coach across Leinster and Ireland. Over the last number of years Rob has been involved as Ireland U/13 coach, Leinster Cricket Club Youth Development Officer and one of the head coaches at YMCA Cricket Club. Furthermore he is currently involved as Pembroke Ladies Head Coach and Leinster Cricket Union Girls Development Coach. Corporate Responsibility

We are involved with the ‘Plan Ireland’ charity which works with under privileged children in poor countries. We currently sponsor a child in Bangladesh and will be looking to sponsor more children. Reinhardt and Albert had firsthand experience with the charity as they both visited the organisation and met some of the children on our cricket tour with the Ireland National Team.
